Your own backdrop.

Make the room behind you what you want it to be.

In your browser

Blur, remove, replace.

Choose a mode: none, blur, remove, a colour, a picture or a video behind you. Several engines do the work (MediaPipe, BodyPix, MODNet, PP-HumanSeg, or your system's own effect), each with a threshold, softness and stability. A chroma key handles a green screen.

What loads from outside.

The processing runs on your machine and your camera picture is not sent anywhere. The engines themselves are not part of Facecast: they are third-party models.

  • Pre-beta
    Models download on first use

They come from third parties at run time: jsDelivr, Google model storage and Hugging Face. That means those services see your browser's request for the file.

The platform's own background effect exists only where your browser and device offer it.

Questions

About the background.

How does the background change work?

Several engines (MediaPipe, BodyPix, MODNet, PP-HumanSeg, or your system's own effect) run in your browser to blur or remove the background, or put a colour, picture or video behind you. A chroma key is also there for a green screen.

Is anything downloaded for the background?

Yes. The first time you use a background engine, its model is loaded from a third party: jsDelivr, Google model storage or Hugging Face. The processing itself runs on your machine and your camera picture is not sent anywhere.
